Barre Grey Quarry
It all starts with selecting the right granite. Not just any stone will do.
Barre Grey Smith Quarry
One of the deepest dimensional stone quarries in the world. It also produces the finest granite for sculptures and large scale projects.
ROA Barre Block Yard
Every quarry block is graded for colour, consistency and quality.
Wire block saw
Blocks from the quarry are sawn into standard thickness slabs
Large Block Saw blades
The large blades are waiting for diamond re-tipping.
Once cut, the whole face of the slabs are polished to perfection.
5 Axis wire saw
Specialty shapes can be cut with precision. Even on a large scale.
Polished slabs are regraded and then laid out and cut into rough shapes of custom memorials.
Every upright memorial needs a perfectly flat bottom to stand on.
Watching a memorial go from rough stone to a beautiful shine is awesome. The craftsman uses nothing but simple hand tools and a series of diamond polishing pads.
Hand finishing design
This artisan is using a series of handtools to accent the design.
Months of time can go into a large sculpture. Only a handful of craftsmen can produce these divine masterpieces.
Every memorial, big or small starts with a customized layout showing you what the memorial will look like.
Once the drawing is approved our craftsmen can start to work on the carving.
Our craftsmen create a rubber stencil/template. This memorial is ready for its final check before the last sandblasting process.
Shape carved roses
A memorial in the final stages of sandblast carving. Shaping of flowers and leaves is all done by hand.
Shape carved rose
Every rose is unique and each craftsman carves them a little differently. Some companies do not offer shape carving and prefer to do things the quick easy way. We like to give customers the choice.
Hand tooled lettering
A time lapse of hand finishing lettering. A very delicate skill that delivers a beautiful and unique finish to letters.
Hand tooled or V cut letters
An in process look at V cut letters. Depending on the font size, it can take hours to complete a family name.
